Upon graduating from the University of Oregon James worked in the home improvement industry where he spent 11 years specializing in purchasing, marketing, and sales. For the last 13 years he has worked for Consumers Power Inc. where he is responsible for customer service, key accounts, economic and community development, business continuity and disaster recovery, conservation, renewable energy and rate analysis.

James also serves on the board of directors for the Albany-Millersburg Economic Development Corporation and is a member of the Cascades West Council of Government's economic development committee. He is currently the BEC Secretary.
